Originally from Darnestown, MD, Mike Waddell (b.1990) DMA, is an Assistant Professor of Music at Longwood University in Virginia. His primary duties include conducting the Wind Symphony and teaching applied euphonium, trombone, and tuba. Prior to joining the faculty at Longwood in the fall of 2022, he held positions at Hiram College, Indiana University of PA, and several K-12 schools. Active as an entrepreneur he was also the co-founder of the Columbus Brass Academy, and schoolofbrass.com.

Active as a performer, Dr. Waddell is a member of the Keystone Quartet and can be heard on their albums Keystone Kitchen and Sweet Appalachia. His debut solo album Infinite Escape releases in October of 2024, and includes all previously unrecorded works for euphonium and piano performed alongside Dr. Lisa Kinzer on Piano. He can also be heard on Versatile Southern Rockand Roll by Rye, Chronicle by Zach Collins, and on the following recordings of the Keystone Wind Ensemble: Tempo di Bourgesious, Fisher Tull, and Grace and Glory: The Music of Jack Stamp.

His research focuses on the lives of living composers and analyses of their music; this work is published regularly in the International Tuba-Euphonium Association (ITEA) journal. Recent articles include interviews with Alex Shapiro, Eric Ewazen, Benjamin Horne, Nicole Piunno, and Anthony O'Toole, among others.

Dr. Waddell earned his DMA from West Virginia University(2022), MM from Georgia State University (2014), and B.S.Ed. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2012).
